Napoleon Dynamite
So I watched Napoleon Dynamite last night, and then again tonight actually. It was better than I had thought it was going to be; it was so funny in so many different ways. When I watched it again tonight, I noticed so many things I didn't see last night; I love that kind of shit. I can't wait to go buy that movie, so next time I want to pretend to be productive it will be one of the movies I could potentially choose. Yesssss!
I Heart Huckabees comes out today on DVD. I want it. For the same reason I mentioned above. Oh, there are so many things I want. I want everything. I am American, after all.
Today actually was a pretty productive day. I woke up reasonably early for having the day off (9:30am), took my car to the dealership for "scheduled maintenance" (they changed the oil), paid some bills, finished some laundry, did my naked yoga, relaxed. I haven't been home in awhile, though - I've been camped out at my boyfriend's for a few days. Sometimes I wonder why I'm still paying rent there, but it is kind of nice knowing that I have my very own place that I pay for all by myself to go home to if I so desired. There's this thing about me where I like to make everything very difficult for myself, I think just so I can prove to myself I can handle anything. For whatever reason I need to know in my head that I can do whatever life throws at me and completely support myself if I need to. It gives me some sense of confidence, at least, if anything.
I was totally about to say something, but I forgot. Surprise suprise. Apparently weed and hash will do that to you...but moreso if you smoke it (as opposed to...uh...just looking at it).
I'm getting really sick of the way SBC is whoring out Eric Clapton in like 10 different commercials. It's pretty annoying. How many different commercials do they need? God.

i don't know why... but the length of the phone cord in Napoleon Dynomite was the funnies thing i had ever seen... that and the squishing of the tots in his pocket.
did you watch ND all the way thru the credits? secret wedding ending!
also, on the "whoring oneself out for commercials" tip, have you seen the ridiculous commercial for like, remax or some other realtors starring the one and only MC Hammer? he's dancing outside of his big fat crib, then it says "15 minutes later" and the repo men are taking all of his shit away and he's all "looks like i need a realtor" or something like that. i felt such pain for that man. such pain.
ND has the best dance scene EVER.
I'd have to diagree with you there Kim. I still think the Romy and Michele's High School Reunion is the best dance scene ever.
And how can the phone cord be the funniest thing you've ever seen mcgibfried? Didn't we all come to love the extra-long cord during the 80s?
i used tin cans.. so cords just seem funny.
In the past twenty-four hours I had three people tell me I suck for not liking ND. I watched it again and picked up some stuff I didn't see the first time, some new funny. I'm a fan of subtle, dry humor and all, but ND still escaped me for the most part. :(
In my house growing up, our family totally had one of those super long phone cords on the phone in the kitchen. We could walk halfway through the house with it! Then, one day, it was replaced with a cordless phone the size of your mom. I mean a brick. It was fucking huge and old, either way.
I didn't watch it all the way through to the end actually, we stopped the dvd sometime in the middle of the credits. I'll definitely go back now and watch it though! Thanks for letting me know about it. :D
Oh yeah, I liked the part with the tater tots too - I really liked when that bully kicked him and squished them all over the place, and then Napoleon went "SICK!" all funny-like.
And Aaron, I could totally see people loving this movie, totally hating it and thinking it's dumb, or just got getting what it is but thinking it's kind of weird or something. I think I just thought all the dumb nerdy things he did were hilarious. K bye.
I totally agree with kim - best dance scene EVER. I don't even remember anything from R&M, so it couldn't have been that good, right?
Bryan - you do suck for not liking this movie. What's wrong with you? Try getting stoned first, it makes it that much better. Actually, getting high makes everything that much better.
!!!
I only suck if she's cute!
Getting high before watching it would be interesting...
Duh, getting high is always interesting!
Kip was pretty awesome...he got to chat online all day with hot babes, and he did end up with LaFawnduh (I hope he was just being dumb on that sign and it's really LaFonda, which isn't as bad). I finally watched the wedding scene - it was pretty funny, and it made me want to watch the movie all over again...
if that's the criteria, I'm kip all day long. except I'm way hotter.
/now where did I put my mirror... so pretty.
"i love technology/ but not as much as you you see/ yes i love technology..."
fuckin' great.
I hope you were singing that really badly as you typed it. Then it would be even more awesome!
I like how the first time he says he loves technology LaFawnduh gets this weird look on her face, but it quickly goes away as he continues the song. I almost wish the song didn't get interrupted by Napoleon so I could have heard the rest of it...
Today, while I was reading the National Enquirer, I spied Paris Hilton (shudder) sporting a "Vote for Pedro" button.
napoleon fucking rocks son!
"Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter."
"Since when, Kip? You have the worst reflexes of all time."
Wow, that'd be awesome if Pedro showed up to comment on my blog too. It'd be like a fullout Napoleon Dynamite orgy or something!
Vote for me!
I caught you a delicious bass.
ND is one of the best movies I've seen since I got my copy of "Cannibal! The Musical" about a year ago. (Check out Cannibal! if you haven't seen it.)
I love the ND scene where he drags the toy behind the bus. The tater tot scene is great, and in the scene where Pedro was just finishing up his lackluster campaign speech, I found myself saying out loud "I hope Napoleon comes out and dances!" thinking he would be an excruciating screw-up. That would have been funny enough, but seeing this consummate nerd doing all these great dance moves made me laugh so hard I thought I was going to pass out. (I have to classify that one with he scene with the golf carts in "Jackass", the second "Let's build a snowman" scene and "Trapper Song" scenes from "Cannibal!", and the "Uncle Fucker" song from the South Park movie. Wonderful stuff!
"I found myself saying out loud "I hope Napoleon comes out and dances!""
You had to say that? I thought it was pretty obvious that it was goin to happen...
Yeah if the movie is kind of quircky I tend to wait for the DVD release. I didn't have any real problems with Nap D, tight casting, tight script, funny. Almost Rushmore like (best cast movie ever, all genre). Nice to see Cat Women got the Rassie.
Snave: I think I started watching that movie once (Cannibal), at the recommendation of a good friend of mine, but I was really high and fell asleep. I think. Or else I was just really high and can't remember a thing about it. Was someone wearing a dildo on his head, perhaps? Or wait, maybe that's another movie?
I totally loved the dance scene, and I was very happy he did not indeed fuck up. I watched this clip of him doing the Top Ten list on Letterman (I'll have to find the link and post it later), and he started dancing during one of them. It was awesome. I think the list was the top ten ways you know you're not the most popular kid in school, and one of them was "You can't dance like this!" and then he started dancing. Rad.
I did laugh hysterically during his dance scene, but I think I may have been laughing harder the first time I saw the South Park movie in the theater and heard the "Uncle Fucker" song. Classic, just classic.
Damien: I've never seen Rushmore actually, but I take it you recommend it?
Hey, didn't have much to say. I just wanted to be the 30th post. You go girl!
Well...you go too, kayaboy!
